Description Astilbe ‘Vesuvius’ (japonica hybrid) A compact, semi-dwarf perennial which has deeply toothed, deep green leaves that are dark red in spring. In summer, erect panicles of carmine-red flowers are borne. Grow in well-drained but moist soil in dappled shade. Intolerant of drought. It will reach a height and spread of 60cm.
