It is rare, but not impossible, for any quick release system to accidentally get triggered. The design eliminates the stretching that occurs with typical leash materials, such as neoprene, velcro and nylon, which can result in sudden and even dangerous failure. The stainless components are pre-tested for impurities. Due to the likelihood of salt or grit build-up, it is recommended that you rinse off the leash in fresh water and soap from time to time. The spring on the stainless clip has no hidden parts. If it gets a little sticky, rinse it with soap and water to remove the minor salt and grit.
